Land Clearing Greenville, SC

Land Clearing Services:

Land clearing—especially for site development on a forested lot—means taking down trees, excavating stumps, and removing root material. You often have to remove topsoil and organic matter from the surface layer of the ground to expose buildable soil.

The depth of the initial soil removal depends on a couple of things. First, it depends on the type of soil present. We live in an interesting part of the world, which means we’ve worked on sites with a foot of topsoil that needed to be removed, and others where buildable red clay is right at the surface. So, the required depth is specific to each site.

The other factor to consider is what you’re building. If you’re constructing something like an eight-foot recessed basement, that becomes your initial excavation depth—at least for that side of the project. Most of the time, the structural requirement is to reach a certain type of soil before building can begin.

Typically, we remove topsoil or layered organics until we reach uniform soil, which in this area is red clay.

With the forestry mulchers, we can flush stumps to the ground, but we can’t sub-soil grind. If you want to remove the heart of the stump, you will have to go below ground, and that’s not something we can do with our mulchers.

We work with a wide variety of subcontractors who handle our hauling. This approach has allowed us to remain more economical on the lot-clearing side.

The truth is, in this area—whether it’s by the lake or in Greenville—many sites either lack the space or have restrictions on how materials can be disposed of on-site. In these cases, hauling material off-site becomes a crucial part of the lot-clearing process.

This depends on what you’re planning to build. On the simpler end of the spectrum, it could be as straightforward as cutting an access trail. With a forestry mulcher, we don’t disturb the ground—we’re simply processing standing vegetation to create access and open up a natural area. That’s essentially a one-step process.

However, if you’re establishing roads, installing drainage, or preparing a site for new construction, then more extensive land clearing is required. This can range from cutting in a driveway to completing your foundation excavation

How We Approach Homeowners Vs Developers & Builders

Developers and builders are focused on selling houses or buildings. They typically prefer business-like efficiency, and we’re happy to meet that pace. These projects are usually one-offs, so we aim to make a strong impact during the short time we’re involved and help lay a solid foundation for the future.

On the other hand, when we work with homeowners, we’re often addressing a specific issue—something isn’t functioning properly or could be improved. We build lasting relationships with our clients by solving these problems and delivering reliable, long-term results.

Common Land Clearing Jobs

A standard land clearing job for us typically involves clearing a lot—sometimes an acre or less—in preparation for home construction. We also take on projects for clients looking to clear land for a new farm or equestrian pasture.

Our standard equipment for conventional clearing includes a large excavator and a bulldozer. We also bring in specialized equipment for more detailed work.
